DESIGN AND MOTOR 1. All FATBOYS should be ~3 upscales of the famous and beloved Estes Fatboy or 7.5” diameter.
2. When loaded to fly (that is with the motor and everything in), the C.G. should be at least 12” from the base of the rocket.
3. The motor size will be limited to K. No clusters or staging is allowed.
FLIGHT AND SCORING The flight that wins will be declared the winner. Winning isn't everything, in fact, it isn't anything. But if you want to play along at home, here is how the scoring works:
Rocket prepped and on the pad at the scheduled time: 15pts. Correctly filled out flight card. 2pts Best paint and finishing. -30 pts Wet paint on rocket: 10 pts Successful motor ignition (on the first try): 2pts First rocket off the pad: 5pts Rocket makes it into the air eventually: 3pts (subtract 1 point for each igniter used) Closest landing to the pad: 5pts Closest landing to the LCO: -10 pts Not needing a shovel to recover rocket: 10pts Recovery on the field, north (out) of the pads: 7pts Last rocket to be returned to the Safety Check table: 1 pt (you're catching on...) Lost rocket: 10 pts (sympathy award) Altitude ends in 13: 10pts Altimeter still able to report altitude: 20 pts Motor Knob Factor( K(f) ) adjustment: K(f) * (point total)
