Report of Officers:
President:
NAR sent the grant check and we purchased and received the new sector box for the Wilson system.
Equipment:
Went thru old MARS system cleaned and fixed all the issues with the system. One sector box had to be sent back to be fixed because of a circuit board issue. We can use the old mars system for low power pads and the Wilson system for high power. Dennis demonstrated a new jaw stand that we are looking to possibly replace the old mid power pads. Dennis will look into setting them up with the rails. MB made a motion to buy a second jaw stand to replace mid power pad Greg second motion was carried.
Treasurer:
Evan Brown gave the treasures report that the club is in good standing
Membership:
Bill Clune reported, we have 41 High Power memberships and 9 Low Power memberships paid for as of right now. 77 membership cards have been printed out and sent out.
Outreach:
Reached out to RMSC to try to get a date to do a display for outreach have not gotten a return call. MB advised that we have the scout jamboree launch on May 18th at the Allegany Fair Grounds.
NYPOWER:
MB will be sending out a blast email from the list we had for NSL last year. Most of the registered flyers are from out of town and a lot of them are return flyers for NSL last yr. The list for range duty is up on the NYPower website everyone is urged to singe up for a time slot. Gave a quick over view of some competition for NYPower one was a best looking night launch rocket. A kid challenge would be building a paper rocket and successfully launching it, another would be a capsule. They would have to design, build, fly and recover successfully. Another suggestion was the RSO pick the brightest night launch rocket but should be a successful launch and recovery.
Member Discussion:
James Shattell from the Syracuse rocket club came and gave a wonderful talk about the Central NY Rocket Team Challenge. He explained how the teams have to build and launch their rockets and how all the volunteer’s help the teams prepare the rockets for flight. He explained how MARS has had several members come out and volunteer to help with this event and if anyone is willing to come out and help they would be more than welcome.
Demonstration:
Bill and Dennis gave a demonstration of the how to setup and run the Wilson launch system.
Show and Tell:
James Shattell
o brought in his very large nose cone from his ill-fated L3 attempt he is attempting to rebuild it and launch it again later this year.
Evan Brown
o brought in his design of a chute release.
Todd Smith
o brought in his scratch built GPS locating system similar to a Kate system. He used some Arduino boards that will send messages from the rocket to the other one that is on the ground.
Brett Carrier
o brought in his Darkstar JR that he made his own vinyl decals for and a NYPower sticker he made.
Raffle:
Brett Carrier won the rocket raffle at the meeting again!!!
